Oyster friendly no more card clash!

no-more-card-clashFinally there is a wallet that lets you use your oyster card without taking it out of your wallet again. Great, no more card clash! With new technology now allowing your debit cards and credit cards to be read on an oyster reader there is a huge risk of card clash. this means the oyster reader will not work because it can read more than one card. Even worse it has been reported that people have had money taken off their debit cards and credit cards when using and oyster reader as it read the wrong card and not the oyster card.

We are being told that the only way to stop card clash is to keep your oyster card separate. For most people this means taking their oyster card out of their wallet which is inconvenient and not very safe. But now with the new wallet from MGB you don’t have to worry about card clash.

MGB wallets are made to shield all your bank cards and credit cards. This means your cards are protected from being accidentally read by any card reader, you will never have card clash again! Inside each MGB wallet there is a special travel card pocket for your oyster card. This pocket allows your oyster card to be read by an oyster reader. The oyster reader will only read your oyster card or any card you put in the travel card pocket. The MGB wallets protect all your other cards so they cannot be read. By separating the cards this way the MGB wallet provides maximum protection for your debit and credit cards, but still gives you the convenience of using the oyster card with out taking it out of your wallet.

What is electronic pickpocketing?

Electronic Pickpocketing

electronic-pickpocketUnfortunately with new technology comes new ways to get scammed. There are mobile readers that can copy your card details simply by touching or brushing up against your wallet or pocket. This is known as electronic pickpocketing. Unfortunately there is actually an app can be download from the internet to read the information from your credit and debit cards using a mobile smart phone. Once your details have been collected a thief can then use your card details to purchase things. Don’t get scammed always protect you self by using an RFID shielded wallet.

An RFID shielded or an RFID blocking wallet stops thieves getting your card details with a mobile card reader or a smart phone and protects you from electronic pickpocketing. However not all RFID wallets are the same. You can buy cheap RFID wallets but they are usually just lined with tinfoil. Tinfoil just reflects RFID signals it doesn’t completely block them, especially if the wallet is not entirely closed. Most of the cheaper RFID wallets just have tinfoil in the outer lining this doesn’t protect your cards very well.

MGB wallets are made to provide maximum protection for all the cards in your wallet, giving you ultimate peace of mind when it comes to electronic pickpocketing. We use a special patented radiation shielding material that is used as lining for all the card pockets and even the change pockets. This ensures that everything in your wallet is protected. We did however add a special travel card pocket inside each wallet. The travel card pocket is insulated from the rest of the wallet and allows you to use an oyster card to travel on the tube or buses without taking the oyster card out of your wallet. As the special travel card pocket is insulated from the rest of the wallet it is the only pocket that can be read by an oyster card reader, everything else in the wallet is completely shielded. You won’t find this feature in any other RFID shielded or RFID blocking wallet.

What is RFID blocking or shielding?

RFID Blocking or Shielding

RFID stands for Radio-Frequency IDentification. This refers to small electronic chip and Contactless-paymentan antenna within your debit or credit card that stores information. This is a new technology that allows you to pay for things with your contactless debit or credit cards. The technology is known as contactless payment or wave and pay. It allows you to pay for things with your contactless card by simply touching it to a reader or waving it over a reader. This technology is new and most new debit and credit cards are fitted with a chip and antenna that allows them to use it. The system works by beaming a pulse of electricity in the form of a RFID signal from the reader to the chip on your card, the chip will then energize and send back the information required for the transaction. RFID blocking or shielding stops the information being sent to and from the chip on your contactless card. This is done by blocking or shielding the antenna on your contactless card. Similar to a mobile phone, if you remove or block the antenna you get no bars and no signal. The chip on your card needs to pick up a RFID signal to work as it has no power source of its own. Without the a RFID signal the chip won’t do anything and is protected from sending out any information. There is a transaction limit of only £30 so it is designed for only small payments.

Your contactless debit or credit card can be read from a greater distance than you would expect depending on the strength of the reader, your cards can be read through clothing (i.e. pockets) and even through a leather wallet or purse. For the best possible security it is always recommended to shield your contactless debit and credit cards so they cannot be read until you want them to be read. RFID blocking or shielding wallets give you the best protection and keep your cards and personal details safe from being accidentally read.

MGB wallets are RFID shielded to give you maximum protection keeping your contactless card details and personal information safe.

Will a RFID blocking wallet allow me to use my oyster card without taking it out of my wallet?

Only an RFID shielded wallet that is specifically designed to work with the oyster card will allow you to use your oyster card with out taking it out of your wallet. Most RFID shielded or RFID blocking wallets will block all your cards including your oyster card. So you won’t be able to simply touch your wallet on a card reader and have it read your oyster card. MGB wallets have solved the problem by developing special wallets that protect you credit and debit cards from being read by a card reader, but still allow you to touch your wallet on the card reader and read your oyster card without taking it out of your wallet.

MGB Wallets were designed to work with the oyster card. They have been tested extensively to ensure that they work properly to open the gates on the London Underground network. They have also been tested on the ticket machine so you don’t even have to take your oyster card out of your wallet to top up your oyster card. If you don’t have an oyster card and normally travel with a contactless debit or credit card, good news. You can put the card you use to travel with, into the travel card pocket and use it just like an oyster card with no chance of card clash.

The travel card pocket in our wallets is the only pocket that can be read from an oyster card reader, every thing else in the wallet is completely protected and shielded from RFID signals. Once you use a MGB wallet you’ll love it!

Thousands of credit cards lost on the tube as customers pull their oyster cards out of their wallets to travel

Thousands of credit cards lost!

Since the introduction of the wave and pay or contactless payment method to travel, using your debit or credit card on the tube; hundreds of credit cards lost and  handed in to the lost property office on a weekly basis. This is all because of card clash. Card clash occurs when you touch a card reader with more than one card. For example if you have more than one card in your wallet that can be read by the card reader, say a contactless credit card and an oyster card, and you touch your wallet on the card reader, this will create a card clash. The reader will not work as it is reading 2 cards. Before the introduction of the wave and pay or contactless card payment method, customers on the tube could keep their oyster cards in their wallets and simply touch their wallet on the reader to open the gate. Now you have to keep you cards separate, so people have been taking their oyster card out of their wallets to use the readers. MGB wallets have solved the problem of card clash by developing special wallets that protect you credit and debit cards from being read but still allow you to touch your wallet on the reader to read your oyster card without taking it out of your wallet.

special-travel-card-pocketIts all down to this special travel card pocket that allows you to keep you oyster card in your wallet again. MGB wallets are RFID shielded which means they block RFID signals from reaching any of your contactless payment cards. The only card that can be read is the one in the special travel card pocket. Brilliant!
